There is no BC
Theologians and Historians are telling us that Jesus Christ the son of David was born in a manger at and around 4 BC, meaning four years before Christ. It makes me wonder though why those years were called BC years, and my logical conclusion is that they were counting down to the year the prophet of that time were telling them the Messiah would come. History suggests that the year 5 BC came before the year 4 BC, not after.
But was there a time were Christ the Son was not? By definition BC implies that this was a time ‘before the existence’ of Christ. However, 1. the epistle of beginnings states that God spoke things into existence
“And God said… and there was….”
Genesis 1:3 NIV.
So, nothing was there in the beginning, just emptiness, and God was there in that emptiness. Was it God alone?
2. The Son was with God in the beginning and He was the Word.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”
John 1:1-3 NIV.
This means the Son was there in That emptiness, with God, and he was the Word, and was God.
3. The Son was before all things created.
“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:17 NIV
These mean that He was not created like all things that were created through spoken Word, spoken into existence. He was there wth the creator and as the creator. Him and the creator God ‘was’ one.
4. God the father calls Him (the Son) God.
“But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;…
Hebrews 1:8 NIV
Clearly, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and if God Himself calls the Son God, then Jesus Christ is Himself God. He was not created because everything created has a beginning, and everything with a beginning has an end, and He doesn’t. He was there before the beginning began and the beginning began because of Him, by Him, through Him and for Him. He is alive and will be forever move. We serve a living God who gave Himself as ransom for us. It could have been us on the cross for all the wrongs we have done, but He took it all, and shed a blood for our sake.
5. He ‘is’ before Abraham and hence before His fathers David and Joseph.
““Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!””
John 8:58 NIV
So, the baby born in a manger was not the first time He existed. He had been there long before than moment, before BC, before the beginning began. What happened that day was God presenting Himself to the world in a human form, with a visible flesh and blood, to have human experience, to dwell amongst us, to be a random for our sins, to show us the way we should live and to reconcile us to His father and to Himself. There has never been a BC time. God does not subscribe to time. A second is like thousand years and thousand years like a second to him.
Footnote: Christ is a Spirit, so are all of us His children. By accepting Him as a Lord and Savior, we let him live in the inside of us and hence can command and speak things into existence like He did. The same Spirit that created everything we see and was there before the beginning began, and raised Lazarus from the dead, is the same Spirit we accepted and opened our hearts to when we proclaim Him as our Lord and Saviour.
